Its establishment was carried out by the Decree of the Chancellor of Sriwidjaja State University No.1645/B/IV/1967 dated 25 July 1967. Based on the Decree of the Chancellor of Sriwidjaja State University No.405/A/II/69, the Extension Law Faculty was changed to the Sore Law Faculty. For ten years, namely from 1969 to 1979 the Evening Law Faculty carried out the educational process. In line with the policy of accepting students through a national selection process under the SIPENMARU (New Student Admission Selection) system, in 1979 the Faculty of Law Sore did not accept new students, so the teaching and learning process was carried out only to serve students who had previously registered. For seventeen years namely, from 1979 to 1996, the Evening Law Faculty experienced a vacuum. The Faculty of Law building on the Bukit Besar campus, which has been abandoned since Sriwijaya University moved to a new campus in Indralaya in 1995, has not been utilized optimally. Seeing this reality, the Dean of the Faculty of Law through Letter No. 803/PT11.1.1/I/1996 dated 12 June 1996 submitted a request to the Chancellor of Sriwijaya University to reactivate the Evening Faculty of Law, Sriwijaya University. Based on the Chancellor's Letter No. 3794RT/PT11.1.1/ I/1996 which was signed by Ir. Machmud Hasjim, MME. On July 11 1996, the Evening Law Faculty was permitted to reopen the Evening Law Faculty at the Sriwijaya University Faculty of Law starting in the 1996/1997 academic year, with lecture activities held at the Bukit Besar Palembang Campus.
