The Plant Protection Study Program, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases (HPT) at Sriwijaya University (Unsri) graduated 72 people (93.5 percent) out of 77 students from the class of 2020 with the fastest study period, three years and five months. This event took place in the courtyard of the HPT Department Building, Faculty of Agriculture, Unsri, Indralaya campus, Thursday (21/12/2023). Head of the Plant Protection Study Program (Prodi), Prof. Dr. Ir., Siti Herlinda, M. Si. said that the Plant Protection Study Program was the only study program that could graduate the most (93.5) percent with a study period of only 3 years and 5 months. "No other study program can graduate that many with a study period of 3 years and 5 months," he said. Regarding accreditation, he explained that the study program was internationally accredited by ASIIN and accredited superior or A by BAN PT. "Most of our study program alumni who have not yet graduated have been ordered by plantation companies. Some graduated at Sampoerna Agro. If we look at almost all of our graduates, none of them are unemployed, they have not yet been graduated, they have passed the first stage of the test for work on oil palm plantations, the second stage is waiting for proof of passing the graduation or not. So, when the judiciary has reached the next stage, all he has to do is interview. Our study program is rare in Indonesia, with only 4 (four) A accreditations, namely Unsri, UGM, IPB, and Syahkuala. So you could say there is no competition. He was sought after because this study program was rare. Moreover, there is international accreditation. "Our study program's learning is also a bit different from other study programs because proposal seminars and exams are required to use English, so students have been trained in English and must be able to speak English," he explained. Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. A. Muslim, M. Agr. in his speech expressed his pride in the achievements of the FP Unsri Plant Protection Study Program. He advised alumni who had just graduated to always maintain their spirit because in the future they would not only face competition between friends who were graduated, but also compete with other universities in Indonesia, all of whom were eager to improve their academic competence. Especially in the global era and after the implementation of the Asean Economic Community, alumni from abroad also face competition because people from around Asia can work in Asean countries, especially from Thailand and Malaysia. "Therefore, on this occasion we also appeal to new alumni, what is very important to improve is their soft skills and competencies. That is the main key for you to win the competition. Improving your skills, leadership, management, lobbying abilities, self-confidence and English language skills is the key to winning the competition. "Thank God, all HPT alumni are used to speaking English," said the Dean. On the same occasion a farewell event was also held with Dr. Ir. Abu Umayah, one of the lecturers who has completed his term of service. (Yo_PR)
